Applied Psycho Neurobiology (APN) – Holistic Healing Treatment

Lisa Diamond Rosenthal, Life Coach & Holistic Health Coach discusses APN and its use as an Alternative Healing Therapy.

Applied Psycho-Neurobiology, known as APN, is a unique and revolutionary non-invasive alternative healing method of Dr. Dietrick Klinghardt that combines an understanding of psychoimmunology and neurobiology.

It focuses on a person’s emotional and physiological levels.

APN uses psycho-kinesiology which is a form of biofeedback coaching and counseling, eye movements (EMDR), color therapy, and sound therapy to identify unconscious and unresolved emotions to resolve trauma and conflicts for transformational healing.

APN sessions are usually 1 hour in length. APN is often combined with Family Constellation and ART.

What we do is we talk to the body and learn what is going on. And so, APN is really a beautiful tool and process especially when it is combined with Family Constellation and ART.

Finding Trauma

In APN, we find and address traumas that were experienced and remain active in the client’s conscious or unconscious mind.

Very often the client does not have a memory of the trauma, but when we give details of when it happened, the person recalls the incident and with guidance begins the healing process. A trauma that is not addressed properly results in a physical illness either shortly after the incident or over time.

The body is very clever and selects illnesses that give clues to the original issue.

It is our goal to identify the root of the trauma and gently release it so it is gone forever. When the original issue is released, the body can go into a healing phase and the illness can begin to subside.

APN tools guide the practitioner to speak to the person’s conscious or unconscious.

The client is completely awake and part of the process. They understand what is happening the entire time.

The person is not put in a trance like in hypnotherapy.

In APN, we talk to the body and learn what has happened and what is going on currently that needs to be addressed. From there, we find a key belief that blocks the body and the person from moving forward in their health and healing.

Addressing the Internal Monologue to
Shift the Conversation

Here’s an example for better understanding APN using the metaphor of a computer.

Our computers have a hard drive and software. Software is the programs you run on your computer like Word and Excel, and apps you run. Your hard drive is the storage and where your software and data is stored. If you had a glitch in your hard drive, every time you started your computer you would experience the glitch.

This is similar to your unconscious memory.

You spend your day working on your conscious memory (your apps and software), but your unconscious beliefs and programming override your conscious thoughts. It doesn’t matter how many mantras and exercises you do each day, if you have an unconscious negative belief playing each day it will overwrite your conscious beliefs.

From the time you are born through the first seven years of life, your brain works like a sponge. Basically you’re not communicating very much but you are taking in vast amounts of information as you watch everybody and listen.

As a young child our memories are stored, but often misread, because it is through the lens of a child and not as an adult with a more complete understanding of the situation at hand. So, if our parents are yelling, we might set up the belief that we are not loveable or that we are bad when all we did was spill our milk.

We then grow up and have this messaging that keeps repeating itself (likely from when we were three years old) but we are unaware that it exists inside of us.

We keep thinking that we’re a bad person or whatever the message is that we’ve absorbed.

With APN, we are able to identify the earliest memory, even if we do not remember the circumstance, and then release the programming. This uncovering is a very quick process. With APN, the process happens in one or two sessions, it’s not years of talk therapy.

It’s what your body and whole being want to release and heal right now.

We work together using ART to speak with the body to learn more about what is out of order or what is in Dis-ease. Is your issue connected to a trauma? is it something inherited? Or something else…

The Firemen: Internalized Trauma

There’s a story I’m reminded of:

Years ago there was a woman, and she bled all the time, she just bled all the time. And it was not period bleeding, it was nose or skin bleeding. When she got a cut and she would constantly bleed from different parts of her body. This was usual for her. She was used to it for all of her life.

She went to see her practitioner one day and they say, “how are you”?

She responds “I’m fine. Not much is going on”.And the practitioner starts asking her some questions and she says “Oh, you know I bleed every day”.

And the practitioner , “What do you mean you bleed everyday?”

She says, “I bleed every day of my life, I bleed, you know, a lot like it’s hard to stop the bleeding”.

And the practitioner says, “ that’s not normal”.

And the woman says. “It’s normal to me so I didn’t bother saying anything because it’s normal for me”.

So they proceed to talk and through the process, the practitioner starts to uncover that this woman had a traumatic birth.

The practitioner says, “Tell me about your birth process” and she said “You know my mom was there and the delivery doctor was between her legs about to deliver me, and the fireman came through”.

The doctor says “Okay, firemen don’t generally walk through somebody’s birthing process.”

She goes “Yeah, yeah the firemen came through. My mom always tells me the firemen came through in a big hurry.

Well, it turns out that not only did the firemen come through during her birth but they also cut a huge hole through the wall of the birthing room to get to the next room where another woman was giving birth near a blazing fire.

The client had internalized that it was her fault that the fire was happening. Of course, she had no understanding of what was going on when she was a newborn.

She internalized that the fire and stress at her birth was her fault so for her entire life, now she was 42, her body was reacting by bleeding uncontrollably. Just like the fire was raging, the blood was flowing, she was just constantly in this mode, and it was all her fault.

When this was brought to light and healed, she stopped bleeding completely and it never returned.

We can hold trauma from the past that can still be active and once it is released transformation can occur.

The Chicken: An Allergic Reaction

Another example-

A new client came in to see me and I tested them and found that they are allergic to chicken and eggs. And I said to this client, “You have a chicken and egg allergy.”

She said, “Yeah, actually I started eating eggs again. But I keep feeling ill after I eat it. I got really tired of not eating eggs and chicken for my whole life.”

Then I started checking her body for reactions and it came back that she had a trauma in her past when she was six years old from chickens.

So I said, “Oh you had a trauma when you were six years old.”

And she goes, “No I did not”.

I said, “Okay but your body says you had a trauma when you were six. Is it okay if I try to fix this trauma?”

She said, “Sure, fix it.”

So I started doing my work and she starts to shake and cry. At the end of the session she says “Well, first of all I want to tell you, years ago when I was back in Russia they told me I had a chicken and egg allergy but they could not help me so I was told to avoid chicken and eggs.”

And then she says “After you finished working, the memory came back. When I was six years old I went to my friend’s house on a farm, and the father cut the head off of a chicken and the chicken was running around, and the blood was gushing everywhere. I now remember that was a trauma for me.”

I said, “I’m pretty sure that was a trauma and I’m pretty sure it’s now released.”

I’ve talked to her since and now she eats chicken and eggs without any problems.

By clearing the emotional trauma she was able to clear the food allergy completely.
